UK stops recruitment of doctors and nurses from Nigeria and 46 other Nations

The recruitment of health and care workers from Nigeria and 46 other countries has been suspended by the United Kingdom government as confirmed in its updated Code of Practice (CoP).   Africa Check had earlier reported that about 5, 250 Nigerian-trained doctors are on the UK books as at April 2018, a rise of 10 per cent on the previous year.   The Sun reported that the announcement which is contained in the CoP and released by the UK Department of Health and Social Care, would help to meet UK’s target of delivering 50,000 more nurses by 2024.    The UK said CoP provide safeguards against active recruitment from 47 countries on the WHO Health Workforce Support and Safeguards list, and also aligns with World Health Organisation’s (WHO) advice on ethical recruitment to promote effective, fair and sustainable international recruitment practices.   It was further learnt that UK authorities will strengthen its ethical approach to the international recruitment of health and care workers.   Th

13 suspected internet fraudsters arrested and detained in Abuja

A syndicate of 13 cybercrime suspects were on Thursday March 11, arrested by operatives of the Abuja Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.    Five of the suspects were picked up at an N8m a year apartment in Gilmore Estate, Jahi, while the other eight were arrested at Katampe Extension, all in Abuja.     The raids were carried out following an actionable intelligence on their alleged criminal enterprise. iPhones, laptops, gaming consoles, 1 Toyota Avalon, and a Lexus SUV were recovered from the suspects.      The suspects have given valuable information and will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

Actress Esther Nwachukwu has called out actor Junior Pope’s wife, Jennifer for blocking her after she tattooed his initials on her body.   Esther who described Junior Pope as one of her favourite actors, said his wife who was initially following her on Instagram, blocked her after seeing that she tattooed Pope's initials on her body. She further revealed that she drew the tattoo in 2018.    The actress wrote;    Now kindly judge this. Nigerian basketball player who is 7' 9" becomes viral sensation and would be tallest player ever in Basketball history

A Nigerian basketball player has become one of the most discussed topics in basketball, with basketball greats talking about him, after a video of him started popping off on social media.   Abiodun Adegoke, 18, is 7ft 9in and can slam dunk with his two feet on the ground.     The Nigerian is set to become the tallest ever competitor in the NBA after he went viral.   A clip shared online shows the teenager working in the gym with coaches in Dubai during a youth talent development camp, where he has been playing recently.     The video shows Adegoke, who at the whopping height of 236cm can dunk with both feet still on the ground, moving with incredible agility and showing close control while dribbling.   The clip was shared by four-time NBA champion Shaquille O’Neal, who played at centre his entire career and used his 7ft 1in frame to devastating effect.     Adegoke already stands seven inches taller than anyone else to grace the biggest stage in basketball.     Known as "bignaija&q

Man walks away from fatal bus crash that killed 22 people 5-years after surviving plane crash that wiped out Chapecoense football team

A man who survived the plane crash that killed most of Brazil's Chapecoense football team has walked away from a bus crash that claimed the lives of 22 people.   Crew member, Erwin Tumiri was one of just six people to survive the LaMia Flight 2933 on November 28, 2016, near Medellin in Colombia which killed 71 of the 77 people on board including 19 players.   On Wednesday, March 3, it emerged that the 30-year-old had cheated death for a second time after a bus he was travelling in reportedly lost control and careered down a hillside near the Bolivian city of Cochabamba.   Tumiri survived the crash but the death toll from the crash stands at 22 and more than 30 people are said to have been injured.      At least 50 passengers were reportedly travelling on the bus at the time of the incident.   Tumiri's sister Lucia said her brother was in hospital but had suffered only minor injuries.   'I was very worried but he's stable and, thank God, he's survived once again.   &

Footballer, Obafemi Martins, has broken his silence on his reported clash with singer Burna Boy at a club in Lagos.   Rapper, CDQ, had taken to Twitter to call out Burna Boy for reportedly disrespecting Obafemi at the club.    CDQ had tweeted;    ''I still can’t phantom this an artist just disrespected Obagoal on thinking he’s now bigger n say e don get mouth pass Obafemi Martins and I imagine how he was able to go back home n sleep comfortably without conscience in this same Lagos  igbagbè manshe awa eda ooo Burna for the first time I’m disappointed in u!!!!!
