Nigerian Government demolishes unapproved building at Ilupeju

The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has demolished an unapproved building at Ilupeju area of the state.   Speaking during the demolition of a building at Olutunda Street, off Ade Akinsanya Street Ilupeju, Lagos on Monday February 15, the General Manager of the Agency, Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, said the building in question was identified by a team of LASBCA monitoring officers in August 2020 and all efforts by the Agency to prevail on the recalcitrant owner to follow due process and best practices, in consonance with the directive of the Agency, proved abortive.   "The illegal structure which has no building approval was built on a drainage channel, wall fenced with no airspace. The building had previously been served all statutory enforcement notices in line with the Lagos State Urban and Regional Planning Development Law of 2010 with no response from the owner/developer, hence the Agency had to remove the building”, Oki said.   The General Manager em...

Lagos-Ibadan rail line extended to Apapa port complex

The Lagos-Ibadan Rail line has officially been connected to the Apapa port complex in Lagos.    China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) made the announcement on Monday February 1.    The statement read;    “On the morning of Jan. 25, 2021, with the successful pouring of the last 25-meter monolithic track bed superstructure of Apapa Port Break Bulk Line, the Lagos-Ibadan Railway was officially connected to the Apapa Port in Lagos. “The Apapa Port Spur Line of Lagos-Ibadan Railway starts from the Mobolaji Johnson Station, Ebute Metta and extends southward to Apapa Port, with a total length of 8.72km. “As a crucial channel linking the mainline of the Lagos-Ibadan Railway to the port, it has become an important transportation passage for the import and export of goods and now serves as a significant guarantee with regards to the comprehensive operational efficiency of the Railway. Lagos state: govt bans heavy duty trucks and trailers from plying roads in the state during the day

The Lagos State Government has banned trucks and trailers from plying roads in the state during day time.   The state Commissioner for Transportation, Frederic Oladeinde, announced this when he met with various truck owners in the state in Ikeja on Wednesday, January 27.   Oladeinde announced that trucks and trailers were now restricted to night operations on dedicated routes between the hours of 9pm to 6am daily in order to avert rising carnage’s on roads during daytime.    He said the move was necessary as the Apapa area of the state has been rendered less profitable for investors in all sectors due to the gridlock and activities of truck drivers along the axis, appealing further to Stakeholders to cooperate with the State Government to remedy the situation.   Also speaking at the meeting, the Special Adviser to the state Governor on Transportation, Oluwatoyin Fayinka, declared that none compliance from truck drivers would be met with stiff penalties...

 Pledges Continuous Investment In Education To Complement LASG Lagos State First Lady, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu on Monday presented 10 HP Desktop Computers, 10 Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems and 10 Computer Tables to Senator Oluremi Tinubu Model Nursery and Primary School, Yaba, formerly known as Reagan Baptist Memorial Primary School, Onike, Yaba.   The donation of the items to the model primary school which is a public institution followed a request to that effect by the Chairman of Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon Kayode Omiyale since March last year (pre-covid).   The administration of Omiyale had embarked on remodeling of the school which was renamed after Senator Tinubu.   At the unveiling of the remodeled school last year, Omiyale had urged the First Lady, who attended the event, to support the council in equipping the school library earmarked for computer studies and books.   Speaking at the brief presentation ceremony held at Lago...

COVID19: YABATECH shuts down hostels and medical center after a director died from complication

The management of the Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) has shut down its hostels as well as its medical center following the death of the College Director, Academic Planning Unit, M.A.O Omoighe, from COVID-19 complications.   A statement released by the institution says all persons who might have had contact with the deceased have been mandated to undergo COVID-19 test and proceed on self-isolation. The institution has also instructed lecturers to resort to online teaching immediately.   The recommendations of the academic board reads:   ''The College should resort to online teaching immediately, for smooth lecturing, lecturers should provide lecture notes to students beforehand and utilise the online period for explanations of the lecture notes, lecturers are to adopt acceptable modality for the online lecturing.
