The 2025 season was a genuine thriller with a title race that went down to the wire and almost saw Max Verstappen seal what would have been an incredible comeback, but instead finished up with Lando Norris claiming his maiden title. BEST DRIVER – MAX VERSTAPPEN

I don’t think there’s any doubt on this one. This was an unbelievable season for Max who put in some huge underdog performances early on to snaffle a couple of wins from McLaren, before storming in with the big threat in the final third of the season.

He eventually came up agonisingly short in achieving one of sport's all time great fightbacks, but he gave it absolutely everything.

Ahmad Ahmad restored as president of CAF by CAS

Ahmad, the embattled president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has been dramatically restored back to his position following a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas).   He was banned by FIFA in November for five years after football's world governing body found him to have breached several of its ethics codes.   At that time, the FIFA ethics committee found “Ahmad had breached his duty of loyalty, offered gifts and other benefits, mismanaged funds and abused his position as the CAF President.”   Ahmad, a former government official in Madagascar, was also fined 200,000 Swiss francs ($220,000).   The 61-year-old appealed his decision at CAS, which issued a preliminary ruling on Friday January 29.   "Due to a risk of irreparable harm for Mr. Ahmad, if the disciplinary sanction is maintained during the period prior to the Caf elections, the Cas panel has upheld the request to temporarily stay the effects of the [Fifa ban]," Cas, sport's hi...

Cuba charges former Minister with espionage and other crimes

Cuban prosecutors have formally charged former economy minister Alejandro Gil with espionage and a range of other serious offences, including bribery, embezzlement, tax evasion, and money laundering, the Attorney General’s Office announced on Friday evening.   Gil, 61, served as Minister of Economy and Planning from 2019 until February 2024, when he was abruptly removed from office. Soon after, authorities revealed that he was under investigation for what they described at the time as “committing serious errors,” though no further details were provided.   In the new statement, prosecutors said they had asked that Gil and other unnamed individuals be held accountable for “crimes of espionage” and “acts detrimental to economic activity.”   The statement also cited a long list of alleged offences, including embezzlement, bribery, falsification of public documents, influence peddling, money laundering, tax evasion, and violation of classified document protection r...
