Nigeria ranks third in Africa’s Military Strength Index 2025


Nigeria has been ranked as the third most powerful military force in Africa according to the 2025 Global Military Strength Index released by Global Firepower (GFP).

 

The annual index evaluates the military capabilities of countries around the world using over 60 indicators, including manpower levels, equipment holdings, financial stability, logistical capability, and geographical factors. The rankings aim to provide a comprehensive measure of each nation’s military posture.

 

In the 2025 rankings, Egypt retained its position as the most powerful military in Africa, followed by Algeria. Nigeria placed third, with South Africa and Ethiopia rounding out the continent’s top five.

 

Here are the top 10 African countries in the 2025 GFP Index, along with their global positions:

Germany summons Iranian ambassador over arrest of alleged spy

Iran’s ambassador to Germany was summoned by the German foreign ministry on Tuesday, July 1, following the arrest in Denmark of a man suspected of spying on Jewish targets in Berlin on behalf of Tehran.   “We will not tolerate any threat to Jewish life in Germany,” the ministry said in a post on X, adding that the allegations require “thorough investigation.”   The suspect, identified only as Ali S., was arrested last Thursday in Aarhus by Danish police, the German federal prosecutor’s office said in a statement. He is “strongly suspected of having worked for an intelligence service,” they added.   According to the prosecutors, Ali S. received instructions from an Iranian intelligence service earlier this year to gather information on Jewish communities and individuals in Berlin. Improved crude oil prices shoot Nigeria’s external reserve to 36.23bn.
